The Best Safari Destinations in Tanzania

Tanzania is home to one of the best safari destinations in Africa.

If your dream is to camp out under the stars, hike through remote bushland, and photograph lions, elephants and rhinoceros in their natural habitat, then a safari experience is your perfect vacation. From the many different destinations on offer in Tanzania, these are the ones we recommend.

The Serengeti National Park is famous the world over because of its unspoiled savanna and incredible game-viewing. Here, on the wide open plains of Tanzania, leopards, lions, elephants, rhinoceros and buffalo roam free. From the back of a jeep you have an unobstructed view of these amazing animals. The photographs you take home from this trip will be good enough to frame and hang on your wall. It will remind you of the amazing adventure you experienced on the Serengeti.

Lake Manyara National Park is a 130 square mile protected area in Tanzania’s Arusha and Manyara Regions, situated between Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley. Visit this area to see tree climbing lions relaxing in acacia trees, the soda ash lake with its thousands of flamingos, and huge herds of baboons. Be sure to catch the buffalo, giraffe, zebra and many more species. All set against the stunning backdrop of the Great Rift Wall. Lake Manyara National Park is definitely a place that should be on your ‘must see’ list.

Famous for white pristine beaches, unrivalled diving and snorkelling in turquoise waters, historical old Stone Town and red colobus monkeys. Zanzibar Islands offer matchless opportunities to experience both tranquillity and adventure. Whether eating local cuisine or immersing yourself in Swahili history, your time spent here will not easily be forgotten. This jewel in the ocean is the perfect Tanzanian vacation destination.

Ndoro Falls, located in Kilimanjaro National Park, are popular for their unspoilt scenery. The Ndoro Falls water comes directly from the glacier on top of Mt Kilimanjaro. After a one-hour walk through a tropical rain forest filled with magnificent trees and exotic plants, you will have the opportunity to see the breathtaking scenery, and stand under the waterfall.

Make sure you have a substantial picnic lunch by the falls before embarking on the journey home which is mostly uphill. Make the end of your journey more enjoyable by stopping at a coffee plantation for fresh coffee or visit the museum celebrating Chagga history and culture.
